    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5A347 Safari/525.20)

I haven't seen any definite confimation. From what I've read the iPhone will be released to more countries on that date and the Philippines is one of the countries listed as coming soon.

Please disregard the fact that I created an account on MacRumors out of desperation, or that you've probably heard of this before.
The situation is that I've had this First Generation iPod Touch. I've jailbroken it, it crashed once, I restored it, I used it until it crashed again. This time, I can't restore it.
    1. I was reading around, (basically a post right before mine) and I found TinyUmbrella, as my iPod was stuck in the recovery state. I'm gonna see how it goes.
    2. I don't remember too well, but before I tried fixing it, it was in the infinite Apple state.
    3. I tried to do a regular restore. At this, I received: "unable to restore, unknown error code (6)".
    -With this, I reinstalled iTunes.
-I tried to restore on a different computer.
    -I switched USB ports.
    -I restarted the computer.
    -I turned off firewalls.
    -I turned off AVG.
    4. I entered DFU mode and I tried to do a regular restore. Same error code.
    5. I downloaded some firmware and tried to do a restore. OS 1.1.4 gives me error code 1601.
-From time to time I get error code 1600.
    -So I reinstalled iTunes.
    6. I tried after reinstalling, same firmware version FOR the first generation, now I get Error 20.
-I've tried to fix, it doesn't work.

    Uh, help? Appreciations to all.
    Cheers.

    Hi,
I'm thinking about getting one of those dell 20" widescreen lcd's or even the 24" if it comes down in price. I'd like to use it as a companion to my 15"pb and also as a TV when I go to Law School.

If I have either: 1) a tivo or 2) a digital cable box
can I just plug either of those into the monitor and have a "TV"?

Obviously I don't have a tv tuner card with my PB...and would rather have the monitor be self-sufficient and be able to record show on my tivo/pvr when I'm out studying and still be able to hook up the PB when I'm home and do PIP.

Any suggestions? I'm lost when it comes to what's need to run a tv on a computer monitor!
    Thanks

@Coleman2010 I am in the UK. Yes, $50/mo, PayPal. Drop me a line to optimumabroad at gmail and let's chat. Let's see if it works (I don't know how much bandwidth the App requires and whether it will work given the 100 msec or so RT latency, but it's sure worth trying).

    Thanks!

IWhat if they were all glossy? What a nightmare that would be.
I don't think you need to worry about that. Serious image editors would never use a glossy screen.

Sounds like a good idea, obviously one would have to pay for the full lyrics, let's say $0.01.

You could search for a lyric, and the result would be a list of matching songs, when you select a song, it gives you Artist, Album & Song Name, plus a sample of the lyrics (say one verse and the chorus). Also the option to buy the song if it's not in you iTunes library.

I know the recording industry are a resistant and mercenary group of individuals, but how much $$$ would they want for just the lyrics, considering you have bought the song already?

Send feedback to apple, and ask for royalties if they ever implement it, you never know!

This will be correct unless the nokia JV with microsoft saves the day for windows mobile

Rumor has it that MS will go dormant (if it hasn't already) and introduce windows 8 with Nokia.

With apple having Lion OS being very similar to iOS (a single iOS on phone and PC), Microsoft might go the same way for their mobile device (making it the same or even closer with windows 8 & windows mobile 8 (or worse windows mobile 7.5 and windows 8) but one OS aka Apple

There have been several leaks of Windows 8 recently, and yes, it looks like it is incorporating aspects of the 'Metro' design into the Windows UI.

With even talk of a Windows Metro UI to replace the toned down 'Windows Basic' UI that runs on low specced machines.

    Hello there!

I set up a mac mini server for my little company a few months ago and I find it to be overkill for the simple tasks I use it for. Originally I planned to setup a web hosting service, an email server and a wiki but our needs didn't grow as I expected and we found simpler alternatives.

Anyway, I am now thinking about selling it but I was wondering if it was simple to transfer the Mac OS X Server license. I can't seem to find info online on how to do this and I don't want to sell a product which won't easily be usable.

    Any tips on doing this?

    Thanks!

Just the SLS license, not the mini itself?

Most people will tell you that you can not. I'm not sure that is correct. Per your license agreement the disks that came with your mini can not be transferred, unless it goes with the actual mini. However, and I am not a lawyer or anything, I have not see anything that specifically says you can not transfer the SLS license. Of course, I really didn't look that hard, and the buyer would need their own media.

It's possible that the file is larger than your e-mail provider will allow you to send in a single message. Check out Dropbox (http://www.dropbox.com/) as an alternative.

Every iPhone thread leaves me amazed at how complacent Americans are in accepting terrible mobile telephony. When's the last time (in Europe) that you had a "dropped call"? I had to look up the term because it meant nothing to me. If the iPhone is going to work properly, then someone needs to give assurances that your calls will actually go through. Forget about downloading songs on the go for a moment, and consider the intended purpose of a phone. If I want to make a call, it means that I need to get through and actually end up talking to someone; not that I want to try to call someone. Don't get me wrong, I'd love an iPhone. I'm just glad I live in a country where your calls go through, and stay going until you terminate it. And what's with this paying for incoming minutes thing? The payment should be the responsibility of the person doing the calling. At least, that's how it seems to work over here.

Well, maybe things have improved since I left, but I certainly had the occasional dropped call when I lived in Britain. Its the nature of the technology.

While advocates of CDMA argue that in theory it should be more robust against dropped calls than other types of network, my worst experience was on Sprint PCS, which uses IS-95, the US CDMA standard. But I've not had any serious problems with either AT&T WS (now Cingular) or T-Mobile, certainly no more than I had with one2one or Orange.

As far as the last part goes, there are two ways to view the "who pays for the call" argument, and neither is the "wrong" one:

    1. The person who decided to make the call should pay for it.
    2. The person who determined the network they're going to be available on should pay for their part of the call, because their choice determined how expensive it would be.

    (2) works very well if you're trying to replace your landline with a cellphone, as you're not forcing everyone, your friends, your family, etc, to pay premium rates to call you. Typical talk plans in the US include so many bundled minutes and unmetered calling periods and types that incoming calls are not a source of fear, and "my cellphone as my only phone" is a real practical proposition, which it just plain isn't in Britain.

However, (1) makes low user tariffs such as PAYG much more practical, and also means you're not in the awkward position of having to claim back minutes used by your boss, etc.

One is not superior to the other. I'd prefer the tariff I'm on to one where incoming minutes are charged at excessive rates to callers (up to 40p - 70c per minute for mobile to mobile calls in Britain, last time I looked) given my needs and circumstances, but if my phone was an emergency phone that I didn't plan to make many calls on and preferred to use pre-paid, I'd probably prefer paid-for incoming calls.

They announce during the first E3 the DS was shown, that it would work with their next console.

raggedjimmi, are they releasing on a DS download channel? That would be great. :)

Interesting, I use Westpac (although I'm in NZ, not Australia), and I haven't had any problems whatsoever with Safari.
With both Mozilla and Safari (don't know about Firefox), there are undocumented procedures to enable a "debug" menu which will (among other things) let you configure the browser to lie about its identity.

In many cases (but not all), this is enough to make an unfriendly web site work. Many times, the site contains scripts that simply check a browser version, even when the actual page content will run everywhere else.
